Skaņu mežs is announcing an open call for SNACK — a showcase for emerging experimental musicians and sound artists from the Baltics and Northern Europe. The selected artists will be able to perform at the “Skaņu Mežs SNACK” showcase in Riga on November 6 or 7, 2026. More info on the event and its various venues will follow in further announcements.
For more than twenty years, Skaņu mežs has consistently developed the field of experimental and avant-garde music in Latvia through international festivals, concerts, collaborations, sound art exhibitions and educational activities.
Skaņu Mežs SNACK is a showcase-format event serving as an independent platform for emerging experimental musicians and sound artists from the Baltic and Nordic region, providing opportunities for international visibility in collaboration with the NERDS network and Riga Music Week.
Skaņu Mežs SNACK aims to:
- provide a shared platform for Baltic and Nordic experimental musicians and sound artists;
- highlight Riga’s independent cultural spaces through experimental music events and collaborations;
- foster new connections between artists, audiences, independent venues and cultural communities across the Baltic-Nordic region.
Eligibility criteria
Applicants must:
- work in the fields of experimental music, sound art or related sonic practices;
- be considered emerging artists (for example: limited international exposure, early-stage artistic development, or limited experience performing at larger festivals and showcase events);
- be based in or originate from one of the following countries or regions: Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Finland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, the Faroe Islands, Iceland or Greenland;
- complete the application form and provide the requested attachments.
