AVANT Festival announces its sixth edition, returning to Lecce from 9 to 11 October 2026 with a programme dedicated to the most innovative trajectories in contemporary music, sonic research and interdisciplinary practices.
Curated by Sud Sonico, and co-founded in partnership with Digital In Berlin, AVANT Festival has established itself as a meeting point for international artists working across experimental composition, electronic music, sound art and new forms of cultural production. The 2026 edition continues to explore the relationship between sound, space and community, bringing together performances, cinema, educational activities and collective experiences shaped by the unique landscape of Southern Italy.
For its sixth edition, AVANT will transform some of Lecce’s most significant cultural spaces — including Masseria Tagliatelle, Officine Cantelmo and the Basilica del Rosario — into environments for listening, encounter and experimentation. The festival’s programme brings together artists from different geographies and artistic traditions, investigating the evolving boundaries between electronic music, contemporary composition and acoustic experimentation.
Music, solidarity and cultural responsibility
In 2026, AVANT Festival further strengthens its social dimension through a fundraising initiative supporting the Ghassan Abu Sittah Children’s Fund, a project dedicated to providing medical care and assistance to children affected by war and displacement.
Established under the guidance of surgeon and researcher Dr Ghassan Abu Sittah, the fund supports the treatment and transfer of critically injured children from Palestine to specialised medical facilities, particularly in Lebanon, while providing medical, psychological and social assistance. All donations collected during the festival will contribute to these efforts, reinforcing AVANT’s belief in music and culture as spaces of solidarity, care and collective responsibility.
The 2026 programme
The first artists announced for AVANT Festival 2026 include:
Angèle David-Guillou, the French composer and pianist whose work moves between minimalism, electronic textures and environmental listening practices, creating immersive and suspended sonic landscapes.
Kenji Araki, the Austrian artist exploring the complex relationships between technology, the body and sound through hybrid approaches to electronic music and performance.
Marie Delprat, French performer and composer whose practice intertwines voice, movement and experimental composition, investigating new forms of embodiment and expression.
Remo Helfenstein, Swiss musician and sound artist working within the fields of contemporary experimentation and electroacoustic research.
Den Sorte Skole, the Danish duo renowned for their dense, cinematic compositions built from electronic production, field recordings, archival material and global sonic traditions.
The 2026 edition will also host a screening of We Are Making a Film About Mark Fisher at Officine Cantelmo, a film exploring the legacy of British philosopher and cultural critic Mark Fisher, whose writings have profoundly shaped contemporary discussions around music, culture, politics and society.
Education, landscape and shared knowledge
Alongside its artistic programme, AVANT Festival expands its commitment to knowledge exchange through activities dedicated to education and professional development.
Sud Sonico will organise a workshop focused on music & cultural fundraising and philanthropy, aimed at artists, independent organisations and cultural practitioners interested in developing new strategies for the sustainability and growth of their projects, particularly by approaching philanthropic actors, major donors and family offices.
The festival also renews its collaboration with 18 Meridiano Escursioni, partner for a programme of hiking experiences designed to lead audiences through the Salento landscape, creating new connections between listening practices, environmental awareness and the territory.
